Phex

Phex is a peer- to-peer file sharing client for the Gnutella network. It is a free software and without spyware or adware. Phex is released under the GNU General Public License.

Phex is based on Java technology and is therefore available on many different systems that offer a J2SE 1.4 runtime environment. These include Windows, Mac OS X, Linux and various other Unix systems.

Phex supports download using " swarming ", which means that parts of the file from different peers can be downloaded simultaneously. Thus, the charging process is accelerated considerably. In addition to preset file rarer parts are preferred. For advanced users Phex offers many opportunities through the configuration a high degree of control.

Phex also offers file sharing in closed groups - so-called private file sharing.

History

In April 2001, Konrad Haenel has the obsolete Gnutella client Furi split off and renamed Phex. After Konrad Haenel was involved in the Phex project until the end of 2001, he left the project. The development will be continued by Gregory K. today.

Anonymous Phex is I2Phex

Since 2006 there is also a I2Phex version of the client, which allows an anonymous file-sharing by the Gnutella protocol is routed via the I2P network. These base-64 keys are used to protect the IP address. The aim is to integrate the code for the I2P network in one of the upcoming versions of Phex, so the client with both IP addresses as well as on the layer network can transmit I2P files.
