Province

Phichit ( Thai: พิจิตร ) is a city ( เทศบาล เมือง พิจิตร ) in the Thai province of Phichit. It is the capital of the district ( Amphoe ) and Phichit Province Phichit.

The town has 22,644 inhabitants Phichit (as of 2012).

Location

Phichit is situated in the central region of Thailand. The city is located about 350 kilometers north of Bangkok on Maenam Nan, one of the tributaries of the Chao Phraya River amidst the rice fields of the central plains.

History

Phichit was founded in 1058 by Phraya Khot Thabong. It belonged since the reign of King Ramkhamhaeng of Sukhothai Kingdom for a long time, later to Ayutthaya.

Attractions

  • Wat Tha Luang ( Thai: วัด ท่า หลวง ) - Buddhist temple ( Wat ) from 1845 with Luang Pho Phet ( Thai: หลวง พ่อ เพชร ), a much revered Buddha statue made of bronze in the Chiang Saen - style.
  • The station building in Phichit was designed and built 1906-1912 by the German architect Karl Dohring.
  • Boat race - on the Maenam Nan ( Nan River ) will take place in front of Wat Tha Luang in September longboat races
