Phil Babb

Philip Andrew Babb ( born November 30, 1970 in Lambeth ) is a former Irish born in England defender who played in his career over 300 league games in England and Portugal.

Career

In the club

Babb began his career in the youth teams of Newcastle United and Millwall FC. In 1990 he started at Bradford City his professional career before he moved to Coventry City in July 1992. After only two seasons, Babb announced his move to Liverpool. Liverpool paid a then- record fee for defender in England. In his time at Liverpool he managed only one league goal, against none of his previous club. After a brief loan to Tranmere Rovers Babb joined free transfer to Portuguese giants Sporting Lisbon. After two years in Portugal Babb signed a contract with Sunderland AFC in which he eventually ended his career.

In the National Team

Overall Babb played 35 times for the Irish national football team, he also took part in the 1994 World Cup. In August 2000, Babb was expelled along with his team-mate Mark Kennedy from training camp after they had appeared drunk in a pub.
