Phil Boggs

Philip George Boggs ( born December 29, 1949 in Akron, † July 2, 1990 in Miami) was an American diver. He dominated in the seventies the springboard diving, was 1973-1978 as the first diver three times world champion in 1976 and won Olympic Gold.

Boggs won the first officially organized by the FINA World Championships in Belgrade in 1973, the title in the art of jumping from the 3 -meter board. 1975 in Cali and in Berlin in 1978, he defended his title successfully. Boggs was the first water jumper who became world champion three times, and is still the only diver to have won three Weltmneistertitel in the art of jumping from the 3 -meter board. His greatest sporting success came Boggs at the 1976 Olympic Games in Montreal. He was superior in springboard diving Olympic champion. Boggs was also successful at the Pan American Games. In 1975 he won in Mexico City in the 3 -meter springboard diving silver, 1979, in San Juan, he repeated his silver medal and won bronze with the 10 - m tower also its only international medal in platform diving. Boggs was a total of nine times American champion.

After studying at the University of Miami Boggs served 1971-1976 in the United States Air Force. He then studied law at the University of Michigan and worked in Miami. He also worked as a sports commentator in appearance. He married Micki King, also a successful water vaulter and Olympic champion in springboard diving in 1972 in Munich. Boggs died at the age of 40 years to lymphoma.
