Phil Chess

Philip Chess ( born 1921 as Fiszel Czyz in Motal, Poland, today Voblast Brest, Belarus ) is an American record producer and together with his brother Leonhard founder of Chess Records.

Life

In 1928, he followed with his mother, his sister Malka and his brother Lejzor, his father to Chicago.Hier changed their surname in Chess and from Lejzor was Leonard and Fiszel from Philip.

After he left the army in 1946, he ran with his brother several clubs, the most important Macomba the lounge was. Two years later, Leonard was a partner in the Chicago record company Aristocrat Records, 1950, Phil was a partner, the brothers took over the company and baptized them into Chess Records. Phil Chess was involved as a producer active in the production of successful Chess albums. In 1968 the company was sold to GRT and Phil retired to Arizona on the old part back.

1995 Phil Chess was recorded together with his brother into the Blues Hall of Fame.

In the film Cadillac Records, which tells the story of Chess Records, Phil Chess is represented by Shiloh Fernandez.
