Phil Manzanera

Phil Manzanera ( born January 31, 1951 Philip Geoffrey Targett -Adams in London ) is a British musician and producer.

Manzanera became known as guitarist with Roxy Music. After playing in a college band called " Pooh And The Ostrich Feather" since 1968, the band changed their more psychedelic style to Canterbury sound and changed its name in 1970 in Quiet Sun. Manzanera responded in 1971 to a display of Roxy Music in Melody Maker that were looking for a guitarist, and was discontinued in 1972. But short time later, he was also at that time already incidentally with various solo projects. Alongside recording his first solo album " Diamond Head " (1975), he called the 1972 resolution Quiet Sun together again, the recorded them together with the assistance of Brian Eno in the same studio released their highly acclaimed by critics only album " mainstream."

Although the founding member Brian Eno was excreted in the strife of the band Roxy Music, Manzanera and Eno worked on together. So Manzanera played on the albums " Here Come the Warm Jets " and "Taking Tiger Mountain (By Strategy) " and on some pieces of the album " Before and after Science" the guitar. In addition, both have worked as executive producer of the John Cale album " Fear". In this and the following album " Slow Dazzle " both were involved as a musician and have greatly influenced the sound of the albums.

In 1976 he founded the short time only existing band 801, which consisted largely of members of Roxy Music, Eno had but as a member in place of Bryan Ferry.

In addition to several solo albums, he has also produced some duets with other artists. So there was albums with John Wetton, Andy Mackay and Tim Finn.

Manzanera says of himself that he never just wanted to copy a style, and that is why, ever since he started to play the guitar learn, has developed his own technique.

Today, Phil Manzanera continues to publish albums, but is unable to repeat his success from 1975 to 1982 EG Records. His latest work Firebird V11, an instrumental album, was released in 2008.

Manzanera is also a member of the band around the Pink Floyd David Gilmour veterans, for example, as part of the "On to Iceland " tour. He co-produced the album "On to Iceland ."

He also produced, among others, the successful album " Senderos de Traición " of the Spanish rock band Heroes del Silencio (whose single " Entre dos Tierras " Europe was a success ) as well as several albums of former Héroes singer Enrique Bunbury.
