Phil Vassar

Phil Vassar ( born May 28, 1964 in Lynchburg, Virginia) is an American country music singer and songwriter. His greatest success as a singer were Just Another Day in Paradise in 2000, In a Real Love 2004.

Career

Phil Vassar grew up as the son of a steakhouse owner in Lynchburg, Virginia. He received a scholarship to James Madison University, where he first completed a business degree while he played the piano in his spare time and performed in clubs as a singer.

After graduating from Vassar moved to Nashville, where he in 1995 with a friend in a suburb an Italian restaurant called Nathan's opened in the regular live music was offered. Vassar came into his restaurant and even on and sang their own and cover songs. Here he heard the son of singer Engelbert, who gave his father a demo of Vassar. In 1996, Engelbert Vassars song Once in a While on; a short time later Vassar could sign a contract as a songwriter with EMI. In the aftermath Vassar wrote chart hits for various colleagues like Tim McGraw ( For a Little While, My Next Thirty Years ), Jo Dee Messina ( Bye, Bye, I'm Alright ), Collin Raye ( Little Red Rodeo ) and Alan Jackson (Right on the Money ).

1998 Vassar received a recording contract with Arista Nashville as a singer. He was honored by ASCAP as "Country Songwriter of the Year" in 1999. His published in spring 2000 debut album Phil Vassar contained exclusively own material; of which five songs were able to place in the top 20 of the U.S. country charts, including the No. 1 hit Just Another Day in Paradise.

2002 Album American Child, Shaken Not Stirred in 2004 followed ( with the No. 1 hit In a Real Love ) and 2006 Greatest Hits, Vol 1 Vassars then changed the label; his next album Prayer of a Common Man was released by Universal South Records in 2008.

Private life

From 2002 to 2007 Vassar was married to Julie Wood, who had been involved in some of his songs as co -author. She is the sister of country singer Jeff Wood, who has also written with Vassar together songs for his albums. Vassar has two daughters.
