Phil Wachsmann

John Paul Philipp Wachsmann ( * August 5, 1944 in Kampala, Uganda ) is an English violinist.

Life and work

Guard came under the influence of musicians such as Anton Webern, Harry Partch, Charles Ives, Luciano Berio and Edgar Varèse improvised music. 1969 and 1970 he studied with Nadia Boulanger. At the same time he became a member of the Yggdrasil Quartet, which aufführte works by contemporary composers such as John Cage, Cornelius Cardew and Morton Feldman.

He then moved to Chamberpot and first worked with Tony Oxley during the recording of the February papers together; cooperation continued steadily, about the Celebration Orchestra. He also worked with Evan Parker (Memory / Vision 2002 and The Moment's Energy, 2009), Paul Lytton, Derek Bailey's Company, Keith Tippett's Ark Group, the London Jazz Composers Orchestra, Fred Van Hove, Rüdiger Carl and Marcio Mattos COWWS. In addition, he performs as a solo musician.
