Philadelphia Independence

Philadelphia Independence is a former American women's football franchise from Chester, a suburb of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The professional team competed in the 2010 and 2011 seasons in the Women 's Professional Soccer.

History

The Women's Professional Soccer announced on 17 March 2009 officially announced the awarding of a franchise to Philadelphia. Two months later, was presented before the Franklin Institute, a museum in downtown Philadelphia, the official team name and club logo. The epithet " Independence" is derived from the Declaration of Independence of the United States, which was signed in Philadelphia in 1776. Philadelphia Independence belonged to Team Dynamic, LLC. Managing director was Matthew Driver, who had taken over the management of the franchises. Driver was the first assistant coach of New England Revolution and is the owner of three other women's football clubs in the Delaware Valley region in the Women's Premier Soccer League.
