Philinna

Philinna ( Greek: Φιλίνας; 4th century BC ) was a wife of King Philip II of Macedon and mother of the future king Philip III. Arrhidaios.

Philinna native of Larissa in Thessaly and was probably married around the year 358/357 BC to King Philip II. Maybe she was a member of the Princely Family of Larissa, which her marriage may have been based on a political purpose. Her son Arrhidaios was older than her stepson Alexander (* 356 ), but came through a mental disability for the throne hardly considered. The emerging in several traditions claim that Philinna was a dancer: been (lat saltatrix ), the propaganda of the Diadochenkriege could have sprung to discredit King Philip III. Should contribute Arrhidaios.

The adoption of a first Philinnas previous marriage, which a son named Amphimachus was sprung, goes back to a probably misleading entry in Arrian.
