Philip Herschkowitz

Philip Moisejewitch Herskovits ( born September 7, 1906 in Iaşi, Romania; † January 5, 1989 in Vienna) was a composer and music theorist.

After studying in Iaşi, he moved to Vienna and in 1928 became a student of Alban Berg, Anton Webern from 1934 from there. In 1939 he returned to Romania, but fled in 1940 to the Soviet Union. As a consistent representative of the twelve-tone him the public impact was there denied as a composer. In 1987 he moved to Vienna, where he died two years later.
