Philip II, Count of Auvergne

Called Philippe of Burgundy, Philippe Monsieur, (* November 10, 1323; † August 10, 1346 before Aiguillon ) was ( uxor nomine ), Count of Auvergne and Boulogne ( 1338-1346 ). He was the only son of the Duke Odo IV of Burgundy and Countess Johanna II of Burgundy and Artois, who make it past infancy.

On September 26, 1338, he married Joanna I, Countess of Auvergne since 1332 and Boulogne, daughter of Count Wilhelm XII. of Auvergne and Boulogne, and of Margaret of Évreux.

They had three children:

  • Jeanne (* 1344, † 11 September to 21 November 1360 Larrey -en- Montagne )
  • Marguerite (* 1345, † young, buried in Val -des- Choux )
  • Philip of Rouvres (* 1346, † 1361 ), Duke of Burgundy, Count of Burgundy, Artois, Auvergne and Boulogne.

In 1340 he fought at his father's side in the defense of the town of Saint -Omer against the attacks of the deposed Count Robert III. of Artois. 1346 he took part in the siege of Aiguillon, which was led by the later French King John II. As he rode to a skirmish on August 10, stumbled his horse jumping over a ditch, threw off its rider and buried him among themselves; Philip was killed by a hoof.
