Philip II, Duke of Savoy

Philip II of Savoy (also without country or Philip of Bresse; * February 5, 1438 in Chambery, † November 7, 1497 ibid ) was Count of Bresse and in his final year, 1496, Duke of Savoy, Prince of Piedmont, Count Aosta and Maurienne. He was the youngest son of Louis, Duke of Savoy, and Anne of Lusignan.

Life

In his early years he rebelled against his father, but was defeated and the French king Louis XI. on behalf of his father from 1464 to 1466 in the castle of Loches held. After he was released, he introduced himself with Charles the Bold against Louis XI. As part of this, he was inducted into the Order of the Golden Fleece in 1468. Philip was one of the main opponents of the Dukes of Savoy and the French regent.

After the death of his great-nephew Charles II, he joined himself to the government in Savoy for a short time.

He married on April 6, 1473 in Moulins Marguerite de Bourbon ( 1438-1483 ), daughter of Charles I, Duke of Bourbon and Agnes of Burgundy. Their children were:
