Philip II Philoromaeus

(Also called Barypos; * about 95 BC; † ca 56 BC) Philip II Philorhomaios was a son of Philip I Philadelphus Seleukidenkönigs. His surname Philorhomaios means " Roman friend "; Barypos means " Schwerfuß ".

Philip II was able to hold against Tigranes II after his father's death in parts of Cilicia. As the Empire collapsed, Philip could first recover with the help of Arab Syria and against Antiochus XIII. maintain and Seleucus VII, but was driven out by Pompey. He competed with Antiochus XIII. for the favor of the Roman general, Pompey but rejected both. He let Antiochus XIII. Kill 64 BC.

Philip withdrew again to Cilicia. Approx. 56 BC he solicited the hand of the Egyptian queen Berenice IV, and thus to the Egyptian throne, but failed at the Roman opposition and was murdered on the orders of the Syrian governor Aulus Gabinius.

Philip was the last king of the Seleucids, who were once the most powerful rulers of the Hellenistic world.
