Philip Rabinowitz (runner)

Philip Rabinowitz (* February 16, 1904, † February 29, 2008 in Cape Town, South Africa) was a native of Lithuania, in 1925 emigrated to South Africa Senior Athlete. He was considered the fastest 100 -year-old in the world.

Records

Rabinowitz, who was also called "Flying Phil" and " Rabinoblitz ", held two world records for his age group, he scored both in the Green Point Stadium in Cape Town. For one, he ran on July 10, 2004, the 100 meters in 30.86 seconds and thus improved the previous record of the Austrian Erwin Jaskulski, which had stood at 36.19 s. A week before, he had already achieved 28.7 s, but this time could not be officially recognized due to a failure of the electronic timing. He also ran on 17 December 2004, the 200 -m distance in 1:17,59 min. In the same year, on August 8, 2004, he took part in Sydney, Australia at the City to Surf race and put the 8.7 miles long route in just over three hours back.

In the Guinness Book of World Records, he was listed as the oldest still active walker. Rabinowitz, who was supervised by coach Hannes election took part regularly in 20 -km road walking. His training was that he marched 6 km daily walking, because as far as the road was back and forth between his home and led by his daughter Joyce Kruger factory where he worked as an accountant. He lived until his death in Hout Bay near Cape Town. He had two daughters, five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
