Philipp von Nathusius (publisher)

Philipp Engelhard Nathusius since 1861 by Nathusius ( 5 * November 1815 in Althaldensleben; † August 16, 1872 in Lucerne ) was a German journalist and founder of the Foundation Nathusius'schen in Neinstedt, the later Neinstedter institutions.

Life

Philip of Nathusius was the fourth of eight children of the landowner and industrialist Johann Gottlob Nathusius (1760-1835) and Louise Engelhard (1787-1875) from Kassel. An older brother was Hermann (1809-1879), younger siblings were August (1818-1884), Wilhelm (1821-1899) and Heinrich von Nathusius ( 1824-1890 ). He grew up in the manor house of the former monastery Althaldensleben and was first taught by private tutors. In 1832 he began his training in his father's porcelain and earthenware factory in Althaldensleben. He also worked intensively with literature studies, certainly also inspired by his grandmother, the poet Philippine Engelhard ( 1756-1831 ). In 1836 he met during a visit to Berlin, the writer Bettina von Arnim ( 1785-1859 ), whom he adored and doted with it for several years maintained intensive contact letter, including about the project a biography of his grandmother. He was the hero of her novel Ilius Pamphilius and ambrosia.

When his father died in 1835, he took over at the age of 20 years, the management of extensive Nathusius'schen commercial establishments in Althaldensleben and Hundisburg. He moved with his family to Giebichenstein in Halle and earned a Farmstead in Neinstedt. This plant, the Lindenhof, Nathusius built to rescue a boy and a house brothers house. On 15 October 1850 he was able to inaugurate the first two buildings of the later Neinstedter institutions.

The people sheet headed Nathusius in 1851 as editor, from 1861 as a publisher. In 1871, he handed this task to his son Martin of Nathusius ( 1843-1906 ). In 1865 he acquired the manor still LUDOM in the former province of Posen, which was a short time later taken over by his son Philip of Nathusius - LUDOM, father of the writer Anne Marie of Nathusius ( 1874-1926 ).

On the occasion of the coronation of William I in 1861 to the Prussian King Nathusius was ( along with three other brothers ) ennobled. From 1865 onwards, he increasingly became ill and died in 1872 during a spa stay in Lucerne. His grave is located in the Neinstedter Institute Park.
