Philippe-Charles, 3rd Count of Arenberg

Philippe-Charles d'Arenberg (French Philippe -Charles d' Arenberg ) ( born October 18, 1587 Barbençon; † September 25, 1640 in Madrid), coming from the house Ligne, was the second Duke of Arenberg and the sixth Duke of Aarschot.

Family

He was the son of Prince Charles and his mother Anne of Croy. Philippe-Charles was married three times. In his first marriage he had been married since 1610 with Pierre Hippolyte Anne de Melun, Baroness de Caumont, the second time since 1620 with Isabelle Claire de Berlaymont, Comtesse de Lalang and the third time from 1632 with Mary Cleopha of Hohenzollern-Sigmaringen. From the marriages of nine children were born. Among them were the later Dukes Philipp Franz and Karl Eugen.

Life

He succeeded his father in 1616 as Prince of Arenberg, duke of Aarschot to and inherited a large part of his possessions. In its various instances of witch hunts in the fall Arenberger area.

The last six years of his life he spent in house arrest at his home in Madrid.

Arenberg was a major art collector. Also during his captivity he acquired by agents numerous pictures. Among them were works of Paul de Vos, Frans Snyders, Gaspar de Crayer, Salomon Noveliers and Peter Paul Rubens.
