Philippe Charles d'Arenberg

Philipp Franz Karl von Arenberg (French Philippe Charles François d' Arenberg; * May 10, 1663; † August 25, 1691 in Petrovaradin ) was the third Duke of Arenberg and ninth duke of Aarschot. He served as a colonel field sergeant in the Imperial Army.

Life

He was the son of Karl Eugen d'Arenberg. He married February 12, 1684 Maria- Henrietta of Alcaretto, Marchioness of Grana y Savona ( 1671-1744 ). He was the father of Leopold Philip and a daughter.

At the age of fifteen years he was in 1678 transferred the command of a German infantry regiment by the Governor General of the Spanish Netherlands Duke Carlos de Gurrea. In 1678 he took over the command of a cavalry regiment. Charles II appointed him in the same year to the captain of a Guard unit. Since 1685 he was a knight of the Golden Fleece. Like his father, he was Grand- Bailli and Captain-General of Hainaut. Arenberg joined in 1691 as a colonel field sergeant in the Imperial Army. In the Turkish wars he fought in the Battle of Slankamen (19 August 1691) against the Ottomans. He was wounded and died of his injuries a few days later.
