Philippe de La Guêpière

Philippe de La Guêpière (* 1725 in Sceaux, near Paris, † October 30th 1773 in Paris) was a French architect.

Life

1734 to 1736 he attended the Paris Académie d'architecture. In 1752 he was appointed court architect to the court of the Duchy of Württemberg.

He was one of those builders who turned away from Rococo and further developed the style in the direction of classicism.

De La Guêpière led the expansion of the New Castle in Stuttgart, designed the plans for the lakecastle Monrepos in Ludwigsburg and most of the rooms of Schloss Solitude in Stuttgart. In 1768 he left the Württemberg court and went back to Paris.
