Philippe Entremont

Philippe Henri Jean Émile Léon Entremont ( born June 7, 1934 in Reims ) is a French conductor, pianist and music teacher.

Philippe Entremont is the son of an opera conductor and a pianist. After his mother gave him his first piano lessons, he learned later Marguerite Long, and Jean Doyen. At the age of twelve he attended the Paris Conservatory and made his debut at age 16 in Barcelona. That was the prelude to numerous concert tours in Europe and the United States. In the 1970s he began his career as a conductor. From 1976 to 1991 he headed the Vienna Chamber Orchestra as principal conductor and later he conducted numerous internationally renowned orchestras in the U.S. and in Europe. Since 1991 he is Honorary Conductor of the Vienna Chamber Orchestra for life. Since the concert season 2004/2005 he is Principal Guest Conductor of the Munich Symphony Orchestra.

Philippe Entremont has also worked as a music teacher. He was from 1972 to 1979 director of the Ravel Academy in Saint -Jean -de -Luz in the south of France and currently leads the Conservatory of Fontainebleau.

Philippe Entremont is an officer of the French Legion of Honour and a Commander of the Order of Arts and Letters.
