Philippe Huttenlocher

Philippe Huttenlocher ( born November 29, 1942 in Neuchâtel ) is a Swiss concert and opera singer (baritone ).

Huttenlocher first studied violin in Neuchatel, after singing with Juliette Bise at the Conservatory of Fribourg. In 1967 he received his concert diploma with distinction. In the International Vocal Competition in Bratislava in 1972, he won the first prize.

Huttenlocher initially worked with the Ensemble vocal de Lausanne, Michel Corboz, from 1974 there was a close cooperation with Helmuth Rilling, since 1990 with the Musiciens du Louvre under Marc Minkowski. His stage debut was in 1978 at the Zurich Opera House in Monteverdi cycle with the title role in L' Orfeo. Other operatic roles have included Lucano in Monteverdi's L' incoronazione di Poppea in Monteverdi's Il ritorno Eumete d' Ulisse in patria, Valentin in Gounod's Faust, Guglielmo in Mozart's Così fan tutte and Golaud in Debussy's Pelléas et Mélisande. Huttenlocher is known for his Bach interpretations. His artistic work has been documented by numerous CD recordings, mostly sacred music. Since 1994 he also works as a choral and orchestral conductor.

In Europe feature film by Danish director Lars von Trier from 1991 Huttenlocher sings along with the theme music Nina Hagen Europe Aria.

Huttenlocher lives in Neuchâtel and is married to the soprano Danielle Borst.
