Philippe Joseph Henri Lemaire

Philippe Joseph Henri Lemaire ( born January 9, 1798 in Valenciennes, Nord, † August 2, 1880 in Paris) was a French sculptor of Neoclassicism.

Henri Lemaire was at the École des Beaux -Arts (EBA ) in Paris Pierre Students Cartelliers. His main work is of the gable ornaments of the Madeleine Church in Paris, which the Saviour, the repentant sinner forgiving, represents a refined work of great plastic beauty.

For the museum at Versailles, he led the statues of Louis XIV and of General Jean-Baptiste Kléber, for a place in Versailles, the monument of General Lazare Hoche, and the pediments of St. Isaac's Cathedral in St. Petersburg, he designed two compositions. His numerous other busts and statues are among the better performances of the French plastic.
