Philippe Paul, comte de Ségur

Count Philippe -Paul de Ségur (* November 4, 1780 in Paris, † February 25, 1873 ) was a French army officer and the son of Louis -Philippe de Ségur.

Life

In 1799 he appeared as a hussar in the army and made Moreau's campaign in Bavaria and Macdonald's campaign in Graubünden. In 1802 he became a member of Napoleon's personal staff. In 1805 he negotiated with the Austrian General Mack the capitulation of Ulm. In the Polish campaign he fell into Russian captivity from which he was released in the same year by the Peace of Tilsit in 1807 again. When Napoleon's adjutant, he personally led the attack on the mountain pass of Somosierra 1808 and was promoted to colonel on.

After serving in the Russian campaign in 1812 as a brigadier general in the wake of Napoleon, he organized at the beginning of the campaign of 1814 the 5th regiment of the guards of honor and, after the fall of Napoleon by Louis XVIII. the command of the cavalry, which had been created from the remnants of the old guard.
