Philippe Ricord

Philippe Ricord (* 1800 in Baltimore, † 1889 in Paris) was a French surgeon and physician for STDs.

Life

Born as the son in the United States before the terror of the French Revolution fled French parents in Baltimore, he completed his medical education at the Sorbonne in Paris. As a surgeon at the Hôpital du Midi he dealt mainly with venereal diseases. He described the three stages of syphilis. Experimental Ricord showed the diversity of syphilis and gonorrhea after and refuted so Hunters hypothesis that syphilis was merely a severe form of gonorrhea.
