Philips Angel

Philips Angel ( van Middelburg ) ( born September 14, 1616 Middelburg, † October 22, 1683 in Middelburg ) was a Dutch still life painter.

Angel was possibly student of Francois Rijkhals (1600-1647), in 1639 a member of the Haarlem Guild of St. Luke in 1643, and its secretary. From 1662 until his death he worked again in Middelburg. Approximately 30 paintings attributed to him today, which can be divided into three groups, still life -like interiors of livestock stables, as " ontbijties " (breakfast ) called Still Life with covered tables and finally poultry Still Life. In particular, the modest " onbijties " stand in the Haarlem still life tradition and are considered the best works of Angels considered.
