Phillips County (Kansas)
Phillips County is a county located in the state of Kansas in the United States. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Phillipsburg.
Geography
The County is located north of Kansas, bordering Nebraska and has an area of 2318 square kilometers, of which 22 square kilometers are water surface. It borders in Kansas clockwise to the following counties: Smith County, Rooks County, Graham County and Norton County.
History
Phillips County was formed on 26 February 1867. It was named after William Phillips, one of the activists and opponents of slavery.

According to the census in 2000, lived in Phillips County 6001 people in 2496 households and 1722 families in Phillips County. The population density was 3 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was made up of 98.25 percent White, 0.25 percent African American, 0.30 percent Native American, 0.45 percent Asian, and 0.03 percent from other races; 0.72 percent were descended from two or more races. 0.67 percent of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.

The average household size was 2.35 and the average family size was 2.89 persons.
24.5 percent of the population were under 18 years old. 5.7 percent 18 to 24 years 23.2 percent between 25 and 44, 24.8 percent between 45 and 64 years, and 21.8 percent were 65 years of age or older. The average age was 42 years. For every 100 females there were 94.8 males. For every 100 adult women 18 years and older 91.2 males.
The median income for a household was $ 35,013, and the median income for a family was $ 41,638. Males have a median income of $ 29,609, women $ 17,827. The per capita income was $ 17,121. 7.2 percent of families and 10.0 percent of the population lived below the poverty line.
