Pho Thong District

Amphoe Pho Thong ( Thai อำเภอ โพธิ์ทอง ) is a district ( Amphoe - Administrative District) Ang Thong province. The Ang Thong province is located in the central region of Thailand.

Geography

Neighboring districts (from north clockwise): Amphoe Sawaeng Ha in the province of Ang Thong, Amphoe Tha Chang and Amphoe Phrom Buri Province Singburi, Amphoe the Chaiyo, Mueang Ang Thong, Wiset Chai Chan and Samko in Ang Thong province, and finally Amphoe Si Prachan the province of Suphanburi.

Economy

The main product of Amphoe Pho Thong is made of basketry, who have even gained a certain notoriety because of its wealth of detail and its durability. A small village, Ban Bang Chao Cha, which specializes in the manufacturing of wicker baskets made ​​of bamboo was considered during a visit of HRH Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn with benevolent recognition. Here the so-called Dok Phikun design was first developed. The marketing of the products is supported by the organization OTOP (One Tambon One Product ) internationally.

History

The district was established in 1890, at that time he was called Huai Ling Tok. Later the name was changed to Pho Thong.

Attractions

  • Wat Khun Inthapramun - the sprawling Buddhist temple ( Wat ), which still dates back to the Sukhothai period, is located just off the major roads in the southeast of the district. In this temple the largest reclining Buddha image in Thailand can be seen. The snow-white, 50 -meter statue is now in the open, by former viharn only the floor plan can be seen.

Amphoe Pho Thong is divided into 15 communes ( tambon), which are divided further into 110 villages ( Muban ).
