Phosphomannomutase

Phosphomannomutase hot enzymes in bacteria and eukaryotes that catalyze the rearrangement of mannose -1-phosphate to mannose 6-phosphate and vice versa. Eukaryotes require GDP- mannose in the glycosylation of proteins, bacteria use mannose as an energy supplier. In humans, two isoforms of the enzyme paralogs are known, which are referred to with the PMM -1, and PMM -2. PMM -1 is particularly produced in the liver, heart, brain and pancreas. Mutations in the gene can PMM2 rare hereditary Glykosylierungsdefekt type 1A ( CDG1A ) lead.

Catalyzed reaction

α -D -mannose -1-phosphate and β -D -mannose -6-phosphate may overlap.
