Phosphoroxidbromid is an inorganic chemical compound from the group of the phosphorus bromides.
Production and representation
Phosphoroxidbromid can be obtained by reaction of phosphorus pentoxide with a phosphorus (V ) bromide.
Properties
Phosphoroxidbromid is white to yellow solid which is soluble in ether, benzene and sulfuric acid, forming a large-leaved crystal mass. The compound is very sensitive to elevated temperature at which decomposition occurs under yellowing. It may therefore be melted never using a flame, but only with the help of hot water. Add water slowly decomposes, forming phosphoric acid and hydrogen bromide.
