Photo print sizes

The image formats of paper -based images in the last few decades on the small picture format (24 mm × 36 mm, 2:3 ). Thus arose formats such as 7 × 10 (7 cm × 10 cm) or 9 × 13 also whenever something had to be cut off from the picture as usual magnification formats. As an important standard format is still the so-called " world postcard" with 10.5 cm × 14.8 cm (DIN A6) called.

All these formats correspond neither to the negative format of 3:2 still the usual in many digital cameras ratio of 4:3. Accordingly, the photo originals before printing must be adjusted. In good labs can be specified if not in matching format the paper images to be circumcised - this is standard - whether or missing areas to be filled white.

Photo paper sizes are specified in inches, the common metric such as " 13 × 18 cm " are therefore only approximate dimensions. The only exception is the "world postcard". To avoid inconsistencies, the exact dimensions should be used. In addition, most photo machines have a cutting inaccuracy of about one millimeter. Since most photo paper rolls are processed, displays them in the different length of the photos.

  • Small image size: 24 mm × 36 mm = 2:3 = 1:1.5 ( usually called miniature or 24 /36)
  • Medium format smallest: 4.5 cm × 6 cm = 3:4 = 1:1.333
  • Classic: 6 cm × 6 cm = 1:1 ( usually called 6 times 6 )
  • Rectangular: 6 cm x 7 cm
  • Size: 6 cm × 9 cm
