Photobiology

The photobiology is an interdisciplinary branch of biology and chemistry. It is used to study the interaction between light and organisms. The research field covers the phenomena of photosynthesis, photomorphogenesis, visual sense, circadian rhythms, and bioluminescence caused by ultraviolet radiation and laser damage. On the biological side, especially the properties of natural pigments are therefore useful, because it essentially determine the absorption properties of the organic matter. In the physiological range the ability to play pigments for energy or signal transduction play a prominent role.
