Phra That Choeng Chum
The Wat Phrathat Choeng Chum ( Thai: วัด พระ ธาตุ เชิง ชุม ) is a Buddhist temple ( wat) in the Sakon Nakhon, Sakon Nakhon province in Thailand.
Location
The Wat Phrathat Choeng Chum is in the city of Sakon Nakhon, Thanon Rueang Sawat, in the far north-east of Thailand.
Architectural History
The Wat Phrathat Choeng Chum built after the expulsion of the Khmer from the area of present-day Thailand. Previously was at this point a sanctuary from the Khmer Angkor.
Attractions
Attractions in the area of Wat Phrathat Choeng Chum:
- The rectangular Chedi Phra That Choeng Chum, which is visible with its height of 24 meters and was built in the 17th century in the Laotian style; it includes a much older Prang from the Khmer - time ( 10th century ); the Chedi is built over footprints of the four incarnations of the Buddha and is highly revered by the faithful in the region
- Spherical boundary stones for the bot ( luk Nimit ) that resemble cannonballs are on display at the spacious grounds.
