Phra That Phu Pek

Prasat Phu Phek ( Thai: ปราสาท ภู เพ็ก ) or Phra That Phu Phek is a Buddhist mountain temple ruins of the historical Khmer Empire in present-day Thailand.

The temple is located in Tambon Na Hua Bo, 37 kilometers west of Sakon Nakhon ( Thai: สกลนคร ) in the Phu Phan - ridge. It is now a ruin, built in 1050 of a laterite prang.

In the temple, astronomical relationships can be observed with the sun's position and the orientation of the structure ( for example sundial ).

Phu Phek was built as a counterpart to the temple Phra That Narai Cheng Weng.

About halfway up the mountain is the modern Buddhist monastery Wat Phrathat Phu Phek ( Thai: วัด พระ ธาตุ ภู เพ็ก ). The temple is known regionally and is on a single rock, leading to the 491 steep steps. These begin at the end of the road at the newly built Buddhist monastery.
