Phran Kratai District

Amphoe Phran Kratai ( Thai: อำเภอ พรานกระต่าย ) is a district ( Amphoe - administrative district ) in the north of the province of Kamphaeng Phet in northern Thailand.

Geography

Amphoe Phran Kratai is seen from Southeast of the following limited Amphoe Lan Krabue, Sai Ngam Mueang Kamphaeng Phet, Nakhon Kosamphi in the province of Kamphaeng Phet, Amphoe Mueang Tak in Tak Province and Ban Dan Hoi and Khiri Mat in the province of Sukhothai.

History

Amphoe Phran Kratai was founded in 1895.

The name goes back to an originating from the time of the Kingdom of Sukhothai local legend, by a hunter ( พราน - Phran ) and a rabbit ( กระต่าย - Kratai ) is. The hunter examined the area south of Sukhothai to find a strategic location for a border town the plant. He spent the night in the area of present-day Amphoe Phran Kratai, where he saw a rabbit in front of a cave with golden fur, which, however, quickly retreated. The hunter told the king of Sukhothai by the incident and volunteered to track down the rabbit and catch. Although he built a small settlement outside the cave, he could not catch the hare. Later, more and more people found their way into the settlement and named it after the hunter Ban Phran Kratai.

Management

The circle is divided into ten subdistricts (tambon ), which are divided further into 116 villages ( Muban ).

Phran Kratai ( Thai: เทศบาล ตำบล พรานกระต่าย ) is also the name of a small town ( thesaban tambon) in the district. It consists of parts of the tambon Phran Kratai and Tham Thong Kratai

In addition, there are ten " Tambon Administrative Organizations" (TAO, องค์การ บริหาร ส่วน ตำบล - administrative organizations) in the district.
