Phrynomantis microps

Phrynomantis is an amphibian genus of the family -mouthed. It is the only genus in the subfamily Phrynomerinae.

Description

The pupils are round, it can be both the vertical and the horizontal diameter predominate. The tongue is large, oblong, cut back and lifted free. Palate teeth are missing. A membranous transverse fold is present between the posterior nares on the palate. The eardrum is not or only weakly visible. Fingers and toes have no webbing. Fingers and toes are more or less distended or enlarged to clear adhesive discs. The terminal phalanges are T-shaped and bony. The Praecoracoide and Omosternum missing. The sternum is cartilaginous. The transverse processes of the Sacralwirbels are strongly broadened.

Occurrence

The genus occurs in Africa south of the Sahara before.

System

The genus was first described in 1867 by Wilhelm Phrynomantis Peters. It is the only genus in the subfamily Phrynomerinae Noble, 1931 It includes 5 types. :
