History
The Phu Quoc airport was built in the 1930s by French colonists and significantly expanded during the Vietnam War. Created originally as a small airfield with a 996 -meter-long runway, the airline took over after the fall of Saigon in 1975 and commercial flights from Phu Quoc. For this purpose the runway in 1983 was eventually expanded to 1496 meters. From 1994 to 1995 a new terminal was built, which was up to the closure of the airport into operation in 2012.
