Phukan

Bhrigu Kumar Phukan ( born April 25, 1956 in Sivasagar, Assam, † 20 March, 2006 New Delhi ) was an Indian politician.

Phukan led in the 1980s with the All Assam Students Union Student Organization ( AASU ) launched a campaign against foreigners. He was the Secretary General of AASU. In 1985 was signed between the AASU and the Government of the historic Assam Accord. The AASU 1985 he founded the party Asom Gana Parishad and won the elections and Phukan was in Assam with 30 years the youngest Minister of the Interior in India. 1991 split a dispute, the AGP and Phukan formed Asom Gana Parishad, the party Natun. Due to the splitting of the AGP lost the 1991 elections.

Back in 1996 the NAGP dissolved again and Phukan returned to AGP back to 1998 and again quit to form the party Asom Jatiya Sanmilani. 2001 merged his party with the Nationalist Congress Party. Later Phukan joined again at the AGP.

Phukan died of multiple organ failure and left behind his wife and a daughter.
