Phuket Airport (Phuket International Airport, IATA code: HKT, ICAO code: VTSP ) is an airport located on the Ko Phuket in southern Thailand. In the passenger count and the Frachtgutumschlag it occupies second place in Thailand.

The airport is open around the clock. It has a start and runway, taxiways eight and five gates.

Airlines and destinations

Phuket is currently a popular destination for European travelers, which is why many carriers fly seasonally from Europe regularly. There is also a significant domestic market from Phuket, which is disputed by, among others, Thai Airways, Thai AirAsia, Bangkok Airways, Nok Air and Orient Thai Airlines. From the German-speaking Phuket is served directly by Condor, Air Berlin and Edelweiss Air.

Incidents

  • On April 15, 1985 crash of a Boeing 737-200 Thai Airways, after both engines had failed. The reason for the crash in which all 11 people on board were killed, could never be clarified.
  • On August 31, 1987 Thai Airways flight 365 crashed while landing in the sea, and all 83 passengers were killed. Tests show human error as the cause.
  • On September 16, 2007 came One-Two -Go Airlines Flight 269, a McDonnell Douglas MD -82, with the landing of the runway from, broke in two and caught fire. Among the 128 passengers there were 87 fatalities. At the time of the accident was heavy rain and westerly wind of about 12 knots.
  • 20 December 2012 had Air Berlin flight AB7425 after an engine fire forced landing. The airport was then blocked until the next day. All 249 passengers were able to leave the aircraft uninjured.
