Phutthamonthon

Phutthamonthon ( Thai: พุทธ มณฑล, even Buddha Monthon written ) is a " Buddhist Park " in the province of Nakhon Pathom to the west of Bangkok, capital of Thailand.

History

The Putthamonthon Park was created in 1957, which is after the Thai calendar, which begins with the birth of the Buddha, the year 2500th The idea for the park, the then General Field Marshal Phibul Songkhram. Park

The park has a size of about 400 acres, in Thai Units are exactly 2500 Rai (compared to Central Park in New York is only 337 hectares ). Distributed over the whole area also are artistic representations of four stations from the life of the Buddha:

  • The "Birth station ": seven lotus-shaped stones symbolize the first seven steps of the newborn Bodhisattva.
  • The " Enlightenment station ": here is the Bodhipanlanka, the seat on which the Buddha under the Bodhi tree learned his enlightenment.
  • The "first preaching station": the Buddha's teaching is here through the Great Wheel of Dharma symbolizes the group of five ascetics ( Pancavaggi ), his first audience, by five seats.
  • The " Parinibbana station": here is reminiscent of the day on which the Buddha entered into the Nibbana.

Another important building is the marble Wihan. In this building - surrounded on three sides by a lake - the entire Pali Canon is inscribed on 1418 marble steles in golden Thai letters. Modern murals on huge panels on the ceiling of viharn depict the life of Buddha and the ten Jataka ( "Birth Stories " ) dar.
