Physica (journal)

Physica was established in 1934 Dutch physics journal ( peer-reviewed ). It is published by Elsevier, to 2007 in Utrecht and then in Amsterdam.

The predecessor of the magazine was published in 1921 as Physica, Nederlands Tijdschrift voor Natuurkunde ( Dutch Journal of Natural History ), founded by Adriaan Fokker, Balthasar van der Pol and Ekko Oosterhuis. Many of the articles published in Dutch. 1934 physics was split off part. At the same time, this cleavage was a continuation of néerlandaises Archives des sciences naturelles et exactes. Série 3A Sciences exactes the Dutch Society of Sciences ( Hollandse Maatschappij der Wetenschappen ). One of the reasons for the separation was that many Dutch physicist of Jewish descent no longer publish in the Journal of Physics after the seizure of power by the National Socialists in Germany were. The popular science part appeared Nederlands Tijdschrift voor further than Natuurkunde, from 1939, the official organ of the Nederlandse Vereniging Natuurkundige. Editor of Physica Verlag was the North -Holland, which was acquired in 1970 by Elsevier.

In 1975 it split into three separate journals:

  • Physica A: Statistical and Theoretical Physics originally, today Statistical Mechanics and Applications (Statistical Mechanics and its Applications )
  • Physica B ( Condensed Matter Physics of, solid state physics )
  • Physica C ( Superconductivity and its Applications, superconductivity)

Originally, the series B in solid state physics and the physics of low temperatures and was dedicated to the C series of atomic and molecular physics, plasma physics and optics. Until 1988, Physica B and C appeared in a magazine. In this year, which was marked by the discovery of high temperature superconductivity, Issue was cleaved C. and very dedicated to the superconductivity.

There were 1980 Physica D ( Nonlinear Phenomena, Non-linear phenomena ) and 1998 Physica E (Low Dimensional Systems and Nanostructure, Low-dimensional Systems and Nanostructures ).

The distance at which appear the individual issues varies, ranging from several times a month to month: Physica A and D twenty-four times a year, Physica B twelve times, Physica C two to three times a month, Physica E ten times.
