Pia Douwes

Pia Douwes (actually: Petronella Irene Allegonda Douwes; * August 5, 1964 in Amsterdam) is a Dutch musical actress, known in particular by the role of "Elisabeth" in the eponymous musical.

Biography

Pia Douwes was born as the daughter of an art dealer and a social worker and has three brothers. At the age of 19 she was accepted despite the lack of education in the London Dance School Brooklyn School of Ballet and was there from 1983 to 1986 trained as a ballet dancer. In 1984 she attended a musical course, which was directed by Susi Nicoletti and Sam Cayne in Vienna.

In 1986 she got her first role in the musical Little Shop of Horrors in Vienna. After another small roles followed in 1987 with Cats in Amsterdam, the first major production. Her breakthrough came in 1992 with the main role in the premiere of the musical Elisabeth in Vienna.

It was followed by other major and minor roles in various musicals and touring productions. She also appeared as a soloist at concerts and gala evenings, among others at the Volksoper in Vienna and as an interpreter of Cole Porter songs.

2007 sees Pia Douwes her first solo CD with their version of December songs, an inspired by Franz Schubert's Winterreise German first recording of Maury Yestons song cycle December Songs on the market and appeared in several solo concerts. In 2008 she was a jury member in the musical talent shows Me Tarzan, you Jane! ( Sat.1 ) and Op zoek naar Evita (Netherlands). She has since worked on over 25 CD productions and directs and accompanies musical workshops. 2012/13, she appeared in Stuttgart in the role of Mrs. Danvers in the musical Rebecca. In 2013 she starred in Kramer vs.. Kramer in the Netherlands. From 16 July 2013, it will embody the female lead ( Claire Zachanassian ) in The Visit of the Old Lady at the Thun lake games, and in Germany Douwes will soon be playing in the German -language premiere of " Next to Normal " in Fürth 's mother Diana. As of February 19, 2014 Douwes is again embody the role of Claire Zachanassian for The Visit of the Old Lady, this time for the Austrian premiere in Vienna's Ronacher.
