Piano Concerto No. 2 (Beethoven)

The Piano Concerto No. 2 in B - flat major, op 19 is an early piano concerto by Ludwig van Beethoven. On the one hand, Beethoven oriented here in the early models of the Viennese Classic, on the other hand can be here already his later handwriting recognize.

Formation

The work was written 1788-1801 and was actually Beethoven's First Piano Concerto, as it was before the first piano concerto. Beethoven wrote two works, first for his own use and found, among other things with these works to a wider public than before pianist and composer. Also, this concert is the predecessor Mozart still close, without denying Beethoven's own style.

About the Music

1st movement: Allegro con brio

The orchestra begins the first sentence with a two- contrasting motifs main theme. The first is a rhythmic - distinctive and energetic in Forte, the second image is by kant ablerer nature and spreads widely. The transition to the second theme is now with a surprising jolt of C to Des, which is also characteristic of the later Beethoven. This theme is now available in D flat major and vocal nature, with an ornate melody. Through this theme, a more lyrical train in the whole sentence prevails, which is also reflected in the design of the piano part, which is less virtuosic than the 1st Piano Concerto. The frequent use of chromaticism in the entire sentence, remembers often to Mozart.

2nd movement: Adagio

The Adagio is as dreamy set of variations. While the expressive power of the musical ideas are hardly enough to connect with the middle movement of the first piano concerto, however, the entry contains a wealth poetry full of pictures. The variations are quite richly decorated by the solo piano and configured.

3rd movement: Rondo, allegro molto

The solo piano introduces the main theme of the final rondo. Noticeable in this context is the emphasis of the second clock part, which has a sharp character and conduct research result. In the middle section is followed by a sensational skidding of the main theme to the minor, which maintains the sharp ductus of the subject.

Effect

The Piano Concerto was premiered on 29 March 1795 in Vienna with Beethoven as soloist. Beethoven himself was one of this concert not one of his best works, and worked it around in the years 1794/1795, 1798 and 1801. Its final form was the work in the printing in 1801, along with the Piano Concerto No. 1. Beethoven added yet 1809 for Archduke Rudolph added a cadenza.

Today, the plant occurs in popularity and Auffürungshäufigkeit slightly behind Beethoven's other piano concertos. The Piano Concerto No. 1, which represents the early Beethoven concerts together with the Piano Concerto No. 2, is often considered higher and performed more often. Nevertheless, the work, due to its undoubted qualities, still represented in the concert halls.
