Piatykhatky Raion

The Rajon Pjatychatky (Ukrainian П'ятихатський район; Russian Пятихатский район / Pjatichatski raion ) is an administrative unit in the center of Ukraine within the Dnipropetrovsk Oblast. The Rajon Pjatychatky was founded in 1923. It has an area of 1,683 km ² and a population of 45 938 inhabitants ( December 2012). The population density is 28 inhabitants per km ².

The administrative center is the city Pjatychatky which is located 70 km southwest of the Oblasthauptstadt Dnipropetrovsk.

Geography

The Rajon located in the historic area of the so-called "wild field " on the outskirts of Dneprhochlandes. Its surface is gently undulating. It is crossed by the Schowta and Saksahan, both of which are tributaries of the Inhulez. The Saksahan is dammed at the border to Rajon Sofijiwka to 13.3 km ² Makorty reservoir. The Rajon is heavily agricultural, the total utilized agricultural area is 141,600 hectares, including 121,500 hectares of arable land, on which mainly legumes, vegetables, melons and fodder crops are grown.

The Rajon bordered to the west by the Oblast Kirovohrad ( Rajon Onufrijiwka in the north, Rajon Olexandrija in the Midwest and Rajon Petrowe in the south), to the north by Rajon Werchnjodniprowsk, to the east by Rajon Krynytschky, to the south, for Rajon Sofijiwka belonging communities Ordo - Wassyliwka and Persche Trawnja and in the southwest is a short section to the municipal area of ​​the district municipality Tscherwone that belongs to Rajon Krivoy Rog.
