Piccaninny is the term for a heavily eroded impact craters in the Purnululu National Park of Western Australia. The 7 km large crater is named after the Piccaninny Creek. The site structure is characterized by a radial gradient in the sandstone formations of the Bungle Bungle. The inaccessible structure was discovered in 1983 after exploring flights, and is clearly visible on aerial and satellite images. It was originally suspected as a possible cause of the landform also Kryptovulkanismus. Later studies in the field, by Gene and Carolyn Shoemaker, but provided evidence for a meteorite impact. The site is now about one to two kilometers below the original crater floor. The age of the impact could not be accurately determined, but he must have been less than 360 million years ago.
