Pico Turquino

The Turquino is at an altitude of 1974 m, the highest peak in Cuba. It is located in eastern Cuba, in the Sierra Maestra, on the border between the provinces of Granma and Santiago de Cuba.

Vegetation

The vegetation is divided into several altitude levels. In the valley there are evergreen and semi-evergreen forests. This is followed by mountain forest with tree ferns. At higher altitudes, a pine forest grows.

History

At the foot of this mountain was during the guerrilla struggle against the Batista regime, the General Command of the " 26th of July Movement " (M -26- 7) or the rebel army, led by the " Commander in Chief " of Fidel Castro.
