Pictorial maps

As an image map following cartographic representations are referred to:

  • Air - satellite and radar image maps: Shoot, the equalized and graphically with topographic content (eg transport, contour lines) and text were provided.
  • Panorama maps with aerial similar effects, mostly drawn in bird perspective oblique view. These are often used as a descriptive overview in tourist areas (eg Alps, ski resorts ). Due to lack of sense of scale they are among the cards related representations.
  • Historical picture plans of cities and landscapes (eg of shares subscribed by Friedrich Wilhelm Delkeskamp image map of Frankfurt 1864 panorama of the Rhine since 1822 ) based on descriptive geographical representations from the air by the parallel projection.
  • Image maps, eg Bollman image maps, integrate the third dimension in the graphical representation. The structure of the drawn card is identical to ordinary maps, but the buildings are shown in oblique view from bird's eye view.
  • Thematic maps that use naturalistic pictorial elements as the main design element. For example, in children's atlases.
