History

From archaeological finds, we know that the area as early as the Neolithic period was ( about 2800 BC) colonized. The area was one of about 15 to 488 AD the Roman Empire and was in the province of Noricum Ripense in the district of the city Juvavum (Salzburg). From the 6th century Piding belonged to the Duchy of Bavaria Salzburggau in the tribe. The Bavarian Duke Theodosius handed to 700 ( probably 696 ), the village as a gift to the Bishop of Salzburg. With this transfer Piding steps into the light of history first. After the extinction of the Counts of Plain in 1260 and the area of ( today's ) southern Rupertiwinkels fell to the Archbishop of Salzburg, who was able to detach his territory to 1328 all of Bavaria. After the secularization Piding fell in 1810 together with the Rupertiwinkel finally to the Kingdom of Bavaria. 1985 was celebrated in Piding the 1250 anniversary, which were the basis for this era, the Duke of Bavaria Theodor donations to the Salzburg church. In earlier centuries the " Högler sandstone " was on the Högl which lies partly in the municipality of Piding degraded. The major building material in the 17th and 18th centuries in religious and secular buildings in the city of Salzburg uses (eg Erhardkirche, residence ). After the Second World War, more than 2 million refugees and displaced persons from Eastern and South Eastern European countries were registered and distributed over the whole of the Federal Republic in the transit camp Piding. Many found in Piding their second home, which the population of 1,140 (1939 ) rose to 1,540 ( 1946). There were two camps: From September 1945 to July 1, 1962 was the camp Piding, which was from 1 May 1948 called border transit camp Piding. Right next to the residential camp, which was mainly occupied with the Sudeten Germans and from the industrial estate Piding and today's housing development have evolved. The most important operation of the industrial estate was the company Hans Schowanek, which produced wood products and exported worldwide ( 1955: 400 employees).
