Pieralberto Carrara

Pieralberto Carrara ( born February 14, 1966 in Bergamo ) is a former Italian biathlete. He participated in four Olympic Winter Games and several Biathlon World Championships. At his time he was one of the best and most successful biathletes his country and was at times a world leader.

Pieralberto Carrara Serina lives in and works as a forest guard. He began in 1982 with the Biathlon and went to for Centro Sportivo Forestale. From the mid 1980s until the late 1990s, he started the biathlon championship. In the second half of the 1980s, he won first World Cup points. His first Biathlon World Championships 1987 in Lake Placid Carrara ran and finished in the sprint to 42nd place. 1988 was the Italians the sprint race of the Olympic Winter Games in Calgary and was the 13th World Championships in 1989 brought a 14th place in the sprint. The following year he won with Wilfried Pallhuber, Johann Passler and Andreas Zingerle as cage rotor of the Italian season in Kontiolahti the gold medal. Particularly successful was the season 1990 / 91st First, he won a sprint in Ruhpolding and was second a Single Page in Oberhof he came to the third rank of Single Page. Something unfortunate ran the 1992 Winter Olympics in Albertville. In the sprint Carrara was 41, with the season he missed fourth just a medal.

The best season was Carrara 1992 /93. He won a sprint race in Anterselva first and a little later with Wilfried Pallhuber, Johann Andreas Zingerle Passler and the gold medal in the relay race at the Biathlon World Championships 1993 in Borovets. In the sprint, he finished sixth. In the 1992/93 season, he finished behind Mikael Löfgren and Mark Kirchner took third place in the overall standings of the Biathlon World Cup. Good, but not outstanding results achieved Carrara as 15 in singles, 23 in the sprint and sixth in the relay at the Olympic Winter Games 1994 in Lillehammer. In non-Olympic team competition he won shortly thereafter in Canmore with Hubert Leitgeb, Zingerle and Pallhuber his third world title. At the World Championships the following year Carrara achieved good results again and again. 1995 in Antholz, he was ninth in the sprint and missed the season in fourth place with just one bronze medal, 1996 in Ruhpolding, he reached the ranks of 18 in singles and four in the sprint, 1997 in Ruhpolding, he won bronze in the relay race. In the 1995/96 season Carrara came in fourth place and the last time the ten best biathletes the overall World Cup.

At the 1998 Winter Olympics in Nagano Carrara reached his greatest international success and won behind Halvard Hanevold the silver medal in singles over 20 kilometers. He also reached the sprint and the tenth in the relay ninth place. His last world championships in the World Championships 1999 in Kontiolahti with ranks 34 in the sprint and 44 in the pursuit. After the season Carrara ended his active career.
