Pierce County (Georgia)

The Pierce County is a county located in the state of Georgia in the United States. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Blackshear.

Geography

The County is located in southeastern Georgia, is around 90 km from both the Atlantic and the northern border of Florida and has an area of 891 square kilometers, of which two square kilometers of water surface, and borders clockwise to the following counties: Wayne County, Brantley County, goods County, Bacon County and Appling County.

History

Pierce County was formed on December 8, 1857 as 119 County Georgia from portions of Ware County. It was named after Franklin Pierce, the 14th President of the United States.

According to the census of 2000, there were 15,636 people in Pierce County. Of these, 115 people were living in collective centers, the other residents living in 5,958 households and 4,438 families. The average age was 36 years. For every 100 females there were 96.9 males statistically every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 92.4 males.
