Pierfranco Vianelli

Pierfranco Vianelli ( born October 20, 1946 in Provaglio d' Iseo, Brescia ) is an Italian former racing cyclist.

He won at the Olympic Summer Games 1968 in Mexico City, the gold medal in the individual road race and thus followed in this discipline his compatriot Mario Zanin. His winning time over the distance of 196 kilometers was four hours, 41 minutes, 25 seconds and 24 hundredths, so he was 84 seconds ahead of second -placed Danes Leif Mortensen. In addition, he won the bronze medal with the Italian team in the team time trial over 100 kilometers.

After the Olympics, he became a professional and finished the Tour de France in 1969 to seventh place in the overall standings. In 1970 he finished second in the Giro dell'Appennino. A year later he won the 17th stage of the Giro d' Italia, which ended at the Kaiser- Franz- Josef - height of the Grossglockner, and reached in the standings to fifth place. In 1973 he ended his active career.
